I found the location exactly where the old maps said it would be—a perfect circle carved out of the mountain's ribs. The purple velvet on the chair is still soft, which is unsettling given that the last occupant left three centuries ago. Or maybe they never left. The eyes in the walls don't follow me; they follow the chair. It's as if they are waiting for a new fool to sit down and finish the sentence. The rent in this dark fantasy landscape is surprisingly cheap, mostly because the neighbors in the wallpaper are always watching you sleep. I didn't stay long enough to find out who pays the cleaning staff.

ART THEORY: This illustration utilizes "Atmospheric Perspective" to create depth within the crater. By using cooler, desaturated tones for the surrounding rocks and a high-saturation purple for the throne, the artist creates a central focal point that commands attention.
