Villagers once believed the red mask belonged to a defeated mountain spirit. It was locked beneath a shrine, wrapped in black cloth and guarded by a family whose name eventually disappeared from every local record.
Years later, a silent girl arrived carrying it beneath one arm. Witnesses noticed something unsettling: the mask appeared angry when she was calm, but smiled whenever danger moved closer.
Nobody knows whether she controls the creature or merely keeps it asleep. The only surviving warning says not to look directly into both sets of glowing eyes at once.
